What comes to mind when you think about your studies at HMKW?

I remember many wonderful years in Berlin, an exciting time and lecturers who paved my professional way.

You acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Corporate Communications at HMKW Berlin. What is your current job position?

In the meantime I am working as a Social Media Advertising Manager. Due to the current difficult situation in the event industry at the moment, I will soon make a slight career change and work in performance marketing. However, I will continue to work in the field of social media.

Did you get any further work experiences prior to your current position that you would like to share with us?

During my studies I worked as a student assistant at the ZDF-Morgenmagazin. That was really extremely instructive and a great insight into the world of television journalism.

When did you figure out your preferred career path? How much was your choice influenced by the compulsory internship?

Until shortly before the end of my studies, I was firmly convinced that I wanted to become a journalist - also through my internship and work at ZDF. My work as a guest manager in family hotels in Greece and Spain during my studies gave me the opportunity to do a traineeship in corporate communications at the tour operator. By many coincidences I ended up in marketing.

Why did you decide to study “Journalism and Corporate Communications”? And what made you choose HMKW Berlin?

I was really excited about the combination, also because I have never seen it in this form anywhere else. And of course it was very attractive to study in Berlin!

Which contents of your studies are part of your current job? How do your studies help you in your work routine?

Especially the marketing contents and the theoretical models are reflected in the holistic view of the marketing strategy of companies.

What are your plans for the future?

Professionally, I am very satisfied in my field, perhaps I would like to do a master's degree in 1 or 2 years while working. But we'll see. I prefer to look from year to year, as I have often experienced that things somehow turn out differently than you think.

What do you like most about your current job position? What is your biggest challenge?

I especially appreciate the fast moving nature of the marketing field and the constantly changing processes. In performance marketing, you need the constant demand on yourself to incorporate new processes and changes into your work. I find that extremely exciting.

Could you tell us more about the application phase after your graduation?

I have always been lucky enough to have the right doors open for me at the right time. I can therefore not remember a phase in which I did not know professionally how to go on.

What would you tell fellow students that study at HMKW?

To soak up the time and take as much as possible with you. This applies to the study and the contents as well as to the time spent around the study. I sound a bit like my 80-year-old future self, but I remember the time at university as a (mostly) carefree and great phase of my life.

Which characteristics should students have that want to study „B.A. Journalism and Corporate Communications“?

Openness to opportunities that arise. Pleasure & curiosity in and for the topics of journalism and marketing. And of course the ability to enjoy Berlin nightlife and still be on time for the lecture the next day!

Thank you very much for the interview and all the best for your professional and private future.
