At the crossroads of Journalism and Corporate Communications

Katharina Klube has already successfully completed her Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Corporate Communications at Media University Berlin in 2016. What has changed professionally since then? We were curious and made contact again. In an interview, she now tells us about her work as a press spokesperson for the German Veterinary Association and her professional and private goals for the future.

What comes to mind when you think about your studies at Media University?

The first thing I think about is of course my own studies and how much I enjoyed my time at Media University. I can only recommend this very practical study to anyone who is perhaps in the orientation phase at the moment.

We have already talked to you about your career start in 2016. At that time, you were working for the MYTOYS GROUP in corporate communications. What is your current job position?

For over two years now I have been working as a press spokeswoman for the German Veterinary Association in Berlin.

Which contents of your studies are part of your current job? How do your studies help you in your work routine?

I am in daily contact with journalists who send me inquiries of any kind. Through my studies of journalism and corporate communications, I already got to know the interface between these two professions at university and maybe that's one of the reasons why I can put myself in my counterpart's shoes and understand his work processes very well.

What do you like most about your current job position? What is your biggest challenge?

Through my work for the German Veterinary Association, I am constantly coming into contact with topics that are new to me. Of course, this is also a great challenge at the same time, because veterinary and professional political topics can really be very extensive. In no other job before, I had the feeling of learning new things every day and continuing my education. This challenges me again and again and that is what I love about my work.

Which recent private/professional project are you particularly proud of?

Currently I am especially proud of a private "project" - my daughter. With her I am currently on parental leave, which I enjoy very much.

Could you tell us more about the application phase after your graduation?

There are many jobs in this "faculty" in Berlin, because you are not particularly restricted by your studies. With this degree you can enter many areas and I have experienced that. The application phase was very instructive, because I also learned a lot in the interviews with potential employers for the subsequent job interviews. Above all, you also learn quickly what you do NOT want and should communicate that.

What would you tell fellow students that study at Media University?

If possible, you should take advantage of all opportunities to work practically during your studies. For the application process, you should bring a healthy self-confidence and perhaps also take part in a few practice interviews (with non-favored employers) to gain experience and become confident.

What has changed for you since our last conversation in 2016? What are your plans for your professional future?

As already mentioned, everything has changed both professionally and privately and I am very grateful for that. For my professional future, the first thing I am planning is a successful re-entry after my parental leave. Then hopefully many exciting topics that are waiting for me and make my professional life so varied and interesting.

Thank you very much for the interesting conversation. We wish you all the best for your professional and private future.
