Prof. Nora Bibel
Professor Campus Berlin, R. 3.09B.A. Graphic Design and Visual Communication
M.A. Communication Design and Creative Strategies
M.A. Visual and Media Anthropology
Nora Bibel was born in Munich in 1971 and moved to Berlin in 1999, after graduating with a Diploma in Photography from the University of Bielefeld. Bibel travels internationally for her work as a freelance artist and photographer in the field of portraiture and documentary and also teaches photography at HMKW's Berlin campus, where she became a professor in 2015.
Bibel’s main focus is the interplay and impact of social change and personal fates mostly explored in her portrait photography. Although her pictures appear to be quiet, concentrated and precise images of everyday scenes, they are in fact staged moments quasi suspended in time, choreographed by the photographer in collaboration with her chosen subjects.
In 2006, Bibel became a member of the agency laif. In 2011, her book „Heimat – Que Huong“ was published by Kerber. In recent years, she realized several projects in Asia with the funding of ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), VG Bild-Kunst and the Goethe Institute.
Her work has been exhibited worldwide in solo and group shows.
