Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures: For the first time in our university’s history the enrolment ceremony took place online via Zoom. During the video conference the university management welcomed all new students and provided an outlook for the upcoming semester which initially takes place online.

After a short presentation of the university and its staff by rector Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Schulz and the department managers, it was up to the students to introduce themselves. Master students participated at the ceremony from Germany, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, the US, Iran and other countries.

Highlight of the enrolment ceremony in Frankfurt: The new campus (opening: April 2020) were introduced to the students with photos from the inside and outside of the building. HMKW Frankfurt is located close to agencies, start-ups and media companies. It even offers a stunng view of Frankfurt's skyline.

Distance Learning instead of quarantine blues

Despite the current situation, the first-year students seemed excited about the start of the semester. Goodbye, quarantine blues! HMKW commences its teaching activities already this week with online introductory courses.

“This was probably the most relaxed enrolment ceremony ever”, a Berlin-based student observed to her own surprise. As many of her fellow students she is excited to make use of the additional time and to finally start her studies. Initially, from the comforts of home and hopefully sooner than later at the HMKW campuses in Berlin, Cologne or Frankfurt (Main).
