Department of Humanities

In the winter term 2019/20, the Master's program M.A. Visual and Media Anthropology has been transferred from Freie Universität Berlin to HMKW. It is assigned to the Department of Humanities.

For the first time in the history of the university, HMKW is offering an advanced Master's program with an e-learning focus. The M.A. Visual and Media Anthropology program concentrates mainly on the research of new digital media forms and examines these primarily from a cultural and ethnic perspective. It also addresses current trends in research or technology, such as the development of artificial intelligence. The master's program is conducted in English, consists of a mixture of e-learning and classroom sessions, and also includes media practical exercises and seminars in the field of film, audio and print media.

The M.A. program Visual and Media Anthropology is primarily aimed at bachelor's graduates with initial work experience who would like to work in the TV, print and online media sector after completing their studies. The program also opens up many other diverse career perspectives in the cultural, media and educational sectors. For example, the Master's program qualifies graduates for management positions in museums, the film industry, and cultural and research institutions with a media and intercultural focus.
