Dear Mrs. Loegel, you are spending the current semester in Barcelona - not for vacation, but for work! Where are you doing your internship and how did you apply for it?
I am currently doing an internship at the international graphic design agency "Story&Co." At a relatively early stage I started sending my portfolio and CV to various agencies, when in the middle of the semester I received a suggestion from our professor Felix Thomas to try "Story&Co." in Barcelona. Since he himself worked there for a few years, he still maintains close contact with the agency, and now I am already the fourth student who is doing her internship there in Spain. That's why I was able to ask a lot of questions to the fellow student who worked there during that time. Most of all, my language skills gave me something to think about: even though I learned Spanish for one semester, I didn't really feel comfortable speaking the language. But since Story&Co is an international agency, I should get along quite well with English.
The application phase was relatively quick and straighforward. I sent my portfolio to the agency with my CV and a letter of motivation, everything in English. A few hours later my current boss contacted me. The Skype conversation with two other employees was very relaxed. After one week it was clear that I could start my internship on October 1st.
In which department of the company do you work and what does a typical day look like?
The main area of "Story&Co." is branding. Mainly for real estate, retail and locations, for example shopping centers, logistics companies, luxury real estate, office buildings etc.

There's no such thing as a typical day, I'd say. There are quieter days, but also days when a lot has to be done in a short time. You often work on several projects at the same time and have to be able to manage your time well. The work is very varied. From simple maps for brochures to logo designs or pitches in which you can participate, everything is part of our daily work.
What knowledge or specific module content from your studies can you apply here?
I would say that the project workshop "Corporate Design" is the most useful module so far. In this module we learned how to develop logos, understand the whole process behind it and design presentations. Everything I learned there I could then apply here.
But actually you can use something from each module in the internship, because after four semesters we gained a very extensive insight into many different areas.
